Employee's thumb is severely cut when in contact with coil,
At 4:15 a.m. on November 2, 2021, an employee was working as a machine operator for a metal service center or wholesaler of metal. He was transferring steel coil from a recoiler to a steel cart. The coil began to unravel (telescope out). To keep the coil in place and prevent it from unraveling any further, the employee extended both arms out. He placed his left hand on the coil while using his right hand to control the push plate from the operator's console. The push plate pushed the coil into the employee's thumb, which was located in between the coil's slits. The employee's left thumb was severely cut and later had to be surgically amputated. The employee was treated without hospitalization.
